Project Role
Furniture & Lightning Design + Fabrication
On this project, I was responsible for designing the wall sconces and the central luminaire, conceived to give presence and meaning to the central column, as well as to the ceiling’s supporting beams. These unique pieces were made using an old artisanal technique, traditionally used in the classic display cabinets of period homes. Glass treated with oxides was used to achieve an aged finish.
The complexity of working with the glass lay in its artisanal nature, which meant accepting certain variations and imperfections inherent to the production process. Compounding this, in an early stage the pieces did not yet have their wood cladding, which presented an additional challenge. The design was resolved through a trial-and-error process, supported by scale models, until each element achieved precise fit within the project’s measurements and proportions.
Additionally, the chair model used in this project was a design commissioned to me for the studio’s catalog.
